Derek Cianfrance’s film is a poignant marriage, a dark, painful portrait of often touching and sometimes moving, occasionally contrived and self-confident effects. Here he is performing strongly with his stars and executive producers Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams; It’s a movie that’s been drowning the audience very close, sometimes dying. Sometimes I feel like it’s a project of a little tolerant actor.
The questions are important: how do relationships fail? Is there a stage where the unhappy couple can do something, change the route? Or do some relationships contain deep-rooted bad chemistry, seeds of destruction?
