Vengeance opens by demonstrating to us the flawed judgment of Detective John Dromoor (Nicolas Cage) as a bust turns out badly. Drinking ceaselessly his inconveniences, Dromoor meets Teena Maguire (Anna Hutchison) in the bar.
She’s presented as a single parent who is a bit excessively coquettish and simple with outsiders. In the wake of making advances on the Detective, he is everything except stricken with her. We see more character advancement with a Fourth of July gathering where Teena keeps on acting like a skank, humiliating her twelve-year-old little girl Bethie Maguire (Talitha Bateman). We see Teena heading home from the gathering with her girl and taking an alternate route through the forested areas (that is a splendid thought mother!). This is the place the story gets ugly.
